Settlements for Yaz Lawsuits Continue but end may be in Sight

Tennessee residents as well as thousands of people all over the United States have suffered blood clots, strokes, or other serious health problems after taking the Yaz birth control pill. If you or someone you know is one of these people, then it is recommended that you speak with a Tennessee Yaz drug lawyer right away. They will help you gather evidence to make your case and see to it that you get the compensation you may be entitled to for all that you have been through.

According to Judge David Herndon, who has overseen the Yaz lawsuits filed against the Bayer Company, an estimated 1,500 of the 9,000 Yaz lawsuits filed have been settled. Plaintiffs all over the country have claimed that the Yaz or Yasmin birth control medication has caused heart attacks, embolisms, clots and other diseases. The federal lawsuits also allege that the Bayer Company failed to adequately research these products and concealed possible risks from consumers.

Judge Herndon has stated, “we’ll get these cases resolved in some period of time here soon,” when referring to a large amount of the lawsuits. Stephen Saltzburg, who is serving as mediator for the cases says that, “I am cautiously optimistic that we will settle all of these cases. There are always some holdouts, but I think we will settle the bulk of these cases in the next year.” Saltzburg also stated that, “rather than conduct trials to streamline the mass lawsuits Herndon put the case on the mediation track.”

Also, according to Saltzburg and the lawsuits, out of the 1,500 cases that both sides have agreed to settle, the average settlement comes to about $214,000. The majority of the cases that have reached the settlement stage deal with claims involving deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism injuries. The Bayer Company has agreed to pay out more than $300 million so far.

Cases similar to this one are being made against the Yaz birth control pill for people across the United States, including the people of Tennessee.
