What do I need to bring with me when I meet with a Tennessee probate and estate planning attorney?

If you are the executor of someone’s will or require someone to help you with the probate procedures, in order to make sure the process goes as smoothly and easier as possible, we recommend that you bring certain documents with you to the meeting. These documents include but may not be limited to:

  • The person’s certificate of death
  • A record of all the assets of the estate – this information will better help us determine what goes through probate, who inherits what, what gets done with the land or property, and if the estate will be taxed.
  • Any will, estate planning or other final wishes paperwork
  • Names and locations of the beneficiaries in the will and their relatives – so proper notice can be given to all parties according to the law.
  • A record of a debts the deceased loved one may have had and bills from creditors – According to the law, notice needs to be provided to creditors
