Drug Store Chain to Settle Overtime Pay Lawsuits

In Tennessee and all across the United States employees are entitled by law to receive overtime pay if they work more than forty hours in a single work week. Unfortunately, many companies and businesses find ways around this law or just fail to pay their employees overtime pay altogether.

In this case, the Rite Aid drug store chain failed to pay overtime pay to their assistant managers and co-managers. According to the lawsuits, the plaintiff claim that the Rite Aid Company misclassified their assistant managers and co-managers and failed to pay them their overtime pay as required by federal law and several states’ laws.

The Rite Aid Company who is number three behind Walgreens and CVS has agreed to pay $20.9 million to resolve claims for damages as far back as 2002. These lawsuits also include more than six thousand former and current employees of the company. The drug store chain however has denied any wrong doing and stands by its belief that its previous classification for managers as exempt from overtime pay is not in violation of the federal overtime law.

Cases just like this one happen to hard working employees all across the country and even right here to Tennessee employees.
