Tennessee Taxotere Lawyer

For thousands of people across the country, powerful chemotherapy drugs have helped them beat various forms of cancer. While there are hundreds of drugs and medications on the market designed to treat and help eradicate cancer, some of these medications come with dangerous and permanent side effects.

A widely used chemotherapy medication is Taxotere, which is commonly used in treating various forms of breast cancer. However, while this medication has been shown to be effective at treating and destroying cancerous cells, it has also been shown to cause total and permanent hair loss or alopecia in some women and men.

Patients who were treated with Taxotere and have lost their hair have reported that they were not warned of this potentially permanent side effect, and if they had known they would have pursued a different course of treatment.

If you or someone you love permanently lost their hair after taking Taxotere, you may be entitled to compensation for suffering from alopecia. A Tennessee Taxotere lawyer can help you fight for your right to compensation and recovery. It may be critical to contact an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible.

Permanent Hair Loss from Taxotere

Taxotere is a powerful chemotherapy drug that is used in treating various forms of cancer including some lung cancers and prostate cancer. However, Taxotere has is most notably used in treating women suffering from breast cancer.

Many people are aware that it is common to lose their hair while going through chemotherapy treatments, however, for a majority of people and women who lose their hair during chemotherapy they can expect their hair to grow back within three to six months after completing treatment.

However, many of those who took the powerful Taxotere medication were not warned of the potential of permanently losing their hair, known as alopecia. Alopecia can affect any area of the body and can come in many different forms including:

  • A lack of eyelashes
  • Lack of eyebrows
  • Baldness
  • Total hair loss from the arms, legs, underarms, and genital areas

Approximately ten to fifteen percent of women who underwent chemotherapy treatment with Taxotere reported that they had no hair growth for ten years after finishing treatment. Many of those women affected by either partial hair loss or total alopecia known as alopecia universalis, were not warned of the potential for this side-effect.

Taxotere Manufacturer Litigation

Beginning in 2015, the Food and Drug Administration mandated that the manufacturer of Taxotere, Sanofi-Aventis, begin to warn patients of the potential of permanent hair loss associated with using this medication.

Recent litigation has been filed against Sanofil-Aventis on the basis that the manufacturer knew that Taxotere could cause total and permanent hair loss, yet did not warn either doctors or patients of this potential risk.

Until 2010 Taxotere not only did not come with a warning that hair may not grow back but in fact specified that hair would generally grow back after treatment was over. Anyone suffering due to this drug should contact a Tennessee Taxotere lawyer immediately.

Compensation for Permanent Hair Loss

Permanent hair loss is a constant reminder to women of the struggles they went through while fighting breast cancer. Those who have suffered permanent hair loss as a result of taking Taxotere often report they suffer from depression and anxiety, as well as struggle with body image following the loss of their hair.

A Tennessee Taxotere lawyer can help women suffering from alopecia recover compensation for their medical bills, hair growth treatment, as well as for the pain and suffering associated with permanently losing hair.
