Johnson & Johnson / DePuy ASR or ASR XL Hip Replacement Systems

Have You Or Someone You Care About Had To Have Another Surgery After Having A Depuy Hip Replacement?

Many of us across the country and here in Nashville rely on medical devices and equipment to help us throughout our daily lives. Most of us who need these devices depend on them to work correctly and offer us the kind of support and help we need to live a normal, happy life. However, recently many people who received a Depuy Hip replacement system also known as the ASR XL Acetabular and ASR Hip Resurfacing systems, have had to have more surgeries due to the high number of failures with these implants. If you or someone you care about has recently had a hip replacement and been advised to have another surgery, you should contact your doctor and a Nashville defective product lawyer right away. You may be entitled to compensation for your surgery as well as any other pain and suffering.

Starting on August 26, 2010, DePuy Orthopedics, Inc., a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson made an announcement that they were recalling two DePuy ASR hip implants after receiving a large amount of complaints about the hip replacements failing and the need to have more painful surgery to fix the problem. About 93,000 DePuy ASR XL Acetabular System implants and DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing System implants are part of this recall. The company made an announcement last year that they were phrasing out these systems only a few months after they were introduced, but they said that the decision was not because of any problems with the devices.

These implants were popular with young patients because it claimed to be more stable and less likely to be dislocated after surgery. Complaints about these devices increased during 2006 to 2009, resulting in nearly one hundred in 2007, two hundred in 2008, and over three hundred in 2009. Most of the complaints resulted in patients having to have more surgery to replace the defective hip implants. Patients having received these implants have made complaints about:

  • Unexplained pain near the hip
  • That their hip implant has become loose
  • That the hip replacement failed
  • Needing to have more surgery to replace the implant

I have a large collection practice and don't handle personal injury cases. Instead of simply declining a case, I referred it to The Higgins Firm. They handled everything. My client got a large recovery and I got a large co-counsel fee. The client and I were both very happy. Attorney Bo Melton
